Meet the teacher - Louise
Louise - Yin Yoga Teacher
In her own three words - creative, passionate and a little sentimental…
Originally I started practicing yoga to alleviate back pain as a result of being seated all day in a desk job. I soon realised yoga was also having profound positive effects on my mental health. I’ve practised many styles over the past 18 years: Iyengar, Ashtanga, Hatha and Vinyasa, however in 2019 I attended my first Yin class and couldn’t believe the profound and transformational effects it had on both my mind and body. More recently, Yin Yoga has helped me enormously in my menopause transition and this is something I’m extremely passionate about sharing with my students.
Fast forward to 2023 and I felt compelled to deepen my immersion, and so I started my Yin teacher training journey. Yin Yoga is a slow, meditative style of yoga where postures are held for longer periods (typically 3–5 minutes), allowing you to gently access the deeper connective tissues—like fascia, ligaments, and joints—rather than just the muscles. It's a deeply introspective practice that encourages stillness, surrender, and presence. As well as improving flexibility and joint health, releasing deep-seated tension and stress, this style boosts circulation and energy flow and best of all, enhances emotional awareness and inner connection. For me, and a lot of my regular class attendees, it’s a powerful balance to fast-paced or strength-based practices - or the busy pace of modern life.
There’s a point in a yin class when collectively the room settles, the energy changes as people switch from ‘busy’ and sink into deep rest. I feel incredibly privileged to witness it.
My passion for yoga continues, my training journey continues and I am delighted to have this opportunity to share my classes with the local community at Sass Wellbeing. Come join me in a class soon - I promise you, you won’t regret it!
