My Daily Wellness Rituals – How I Show Up for Myself Every Day
Wellness Isn’t Something You “Do” — It’s How You Live
Wellness isn’t found in one class, one meal, or one meditation — it’s the collection of choices we make, again and again, to feel good in our body and at peace in our mind. And it isn’t something you tick off a list. It’s the way you show up for yourself — daily, fiercely, gently — so you can thrive now and long into the future.
For me, wellness has become a way of life. Not a quick fix, not something I expect my GP to prescribe, but a rhythm of practices that support my body, my nervous system, and my mind.
Living Well with ADHD
Part of my drive to create this lifestyle comes from living with anxiety, panic disorder and at times, depression, since my teens. For years I felt like I was chasing balance but never quite catching it. I was prescribed beta blockers and SSRIs (or antidepressants) from the age of 19. My brain is busy, my energy fluctuates, and structure has never come naturally.
In January 2025, I was officially diagnosed with ADHD. A weight lifted, an answer to so many questions but a whole new way of managing life - and several businesses!
By weaving together daily practices that nurture me — meditation, movement, Ayurvedic rituals, nutrition, sleep, and learning — I’ve discovered what it means to actually feel steady, focused, and calm. These rituals don’t “fix” me; they help me work with the way I’m wired.
Why I Meditate Every Day
If there’s one practice that has transformed my mental health more than any other, it’s meditation.
I’ll be honest, the thought of sitting still once felt impossible, and working through ADHD screening with my family, sitting still has never been a strong point! My mind would race, my body would fidget, and I’d feel frustrated within minutes.
Every morning, before the day takes over, I sit (or lie in bed). Just me, my breath, and my mind - and this is the first time in my 40 years of life, I’ve truly committed to it. Most days it’s 10–20 minutes, sometimes guided, sometimes in silence, but always consistent. I focus on my breath, grounding, and setting intentions for the day. Over the past 241 days (as of today!) of consistent practice, I’ve felt my anxiety lessen, my focus sharpen, and my ability to cope with life’s waves grow stronger. Without doubt, my meditation practice has been the one wellness habit that’s made the quickest and most profound impact on my mental health — even more than yoga. It’s given me a steadiness I’d been searching for since my teens, and now it’s the anchor that everything else rests on. I wish I’d committed sooner.
Sometimes I pair this with a little journaling — noting gratitude, priorities, or simply reflecting. This isn’t about productivity or ticking boxes — it’s about choosing how I want to show up. Some mornings that means strength, other mornings, softness. But it always starts with stillness. This quiet, intentional start sets the tone for the rest of the day, helping me show up fully in both my personal and professional life.
How Movement Anchors Me
Movement is non-negotiable for me. Each style I practice supports me in different ways; I blend Pilates, strength training, yoga and time in nature walking - and sometimes trying to run! All of it I have to enjoy, to ensure my body is both strong and mobile. Strength training keeps my muscles firing and supports my metabolism, Pilates builds deep core strength and posture, and yoga allows my body to stretch, release, and flow. Nature is the free, added bonus where time stands still and creative juices flow. Come rain, shine or snow, I get outdoors as often as I can.
I also practise functional movement — slow, mindful exercises that help me connect to my body, uncover any “sticky points,” and build awareness of how I move and feel. This isn’t about perfect form; it’s about tuning in, listening to my body, and educating myself - and in turn, I take this education into my classes.
I had one ‘vanity’ objective for when I hit 40 - visible abdominals ‘ and despite my love of cake, they’re definitely visible! In all honesty, working with a Personal Trainer since January 2024 has been the best investment of my life. I’ve sacrified a lot to afford a coach whose values align with mine - mindful movement, working with my body and its monthly cycle and most importantly, considering my mental state when I train. I’ve learned to be more compassionate with myself and on the days when I’m stressed, anxious or emotionally tired, have moved my focus from hitting personal bests to simply being present in my body.
With ADHD, my energy and attention can be unpredictable. Moving my body daily gives me both the release and the regulation I need. It’s my anchor.
Ayurveda: Creating Rhythm and Ritual
I love weaving Ayurvedic principles into my daily life. My mornings often include a hot water and lemon - usually delivered to my bedside table before I’m awake (this is a VERY good habit formed by Gino) ;) mindful breathing, and small rituals like tongue scraping or oil pulling. Seasonally, I adjust my routines to support balance — whether that’s warming teas in colder months, more restorative movement, or extra rest. For the last 12 months I’ve dedicated energy to aligning my routine with the seasons and it’s made a positive difference to my overall health. Not wanting to tempt fate, my immune system has been working more optimally than ever before - especially considering I spend so much time around the general public!
These small, consistent rituals nourish my nervous system, support digestion, and bring rhythm to my day — giving me a sense of stability that carries me through life. They remind me to pause, to look after myself, and to live in tune with nature rather than against it.
Nutrition, Sleep, and Lifelong Learning
I eat for nourishment, not restriction. Yes, I enjoy my food and the odd glass of rosé wine, but consistency in movement and balance keeps me healthy. Muscle helps burn calories, and strength gives me confidence — both physically and mentally. If there’s one improvement to be made - it’s eating more - and more often! With work, and my hyper-focus super-powers, eating can occasionally slip down the list of priorities, but with my sharp self-awareness, my body will usually give me a gentle reminder.
Sleep is non-negotiable. Prioritising rest allows my body to repair, my mind to reset, and every other wellness practice to be more effective. Nothing and no-one will stop me from going to bed when I decide; phone firmly on ‘do not disturb.’ I keep my nutrition simple: nourishing foods that balance my energy and don’t overstimulate me. Sleep is a priority, not a luxury — my whole system feels different when I’m rested.
And learning is part of my wellness too. I read daily — sometimes for pleasure, sometimes for growth. Feeding my mind keeps me inspired, focused, and connected.
Bringing It All Together
Wellness isn’t about perfection. It’s not about following every ritual flawlessly or living in a bubble. It’s about building a collection of practices that support you, fiercely and gently, day after day.
For me, these choices help steady my ADHD brain, calm my nervous system, and remind me that my health is my responsibility. I have plenty of proof telling me this really works too - from dealing with situations that would have once sent me into a dark place to no longer needing prescription medicine for my mental health. And the biggest win? I’ve done all of this myself through choice, commitment and kindness.
It’s not about waiting for my GP to hand me answers. It’s about showing up for myself, consistently, with love and discipline. That’s where real wellness lives.
My biggest lesson to pass on to others? PRIORITISE YOU. Above anyone and anything else. When you prioritise you, every other element of your life falls into place so much more easily. And for those of you saying ‘but you don’t have kids’ I can absolutely promise you, your kids will reap the benefits too. Children learn by example - be the best example you possibly can be as a parent by putting YOU at the top of the to-do list.
Prioritising “me time” ensures I can show up fully for others and for my business — and more importantly, it strengthens my connection with myself. Until you’ve tried it - and committed to it consistently, you’ll never know.
If you want to explore this further, I’d love to see you in one of my classes — Pilates for Life, Movement for Life, Strong Base - the men’s only, no BS practice. Together, we can build strength, awareness, and balance, and help you feel connected to your body and your life.
If you’re curious about how Ayurveda, movement, and daily rituals can support your own health, I’d love to invite you to my upcoming Ayurveda workshops with Mabel. Together we’ll explore the foundations of Ayurveda, simple seasonal practices, and a guided movement session to help you feel more balanced in body and mind. Click here to find out more.
This isn’t about adding another “to-do” to your list — it’s about discovering practical, sustainable ways to bring more energy, calm, and focus into your everyday life.
Wellness is yours to design. Start small, stay consistent, and show up for yourself — every single day.
